School of the Arts Performances

Whether you’re a culture vulture or just looking for something fun to do that won’t break the bank, the SOTA Arts CalendarCollege of Charleston School of the Arts has you covered with a wonderful array of events that are free or discounted for CofC faculty and staff.

CofC Concerts, hosted by the Department of Music, presents numerous public performances, featuring world-class visiting artists, distinguished faculty and talented students. Faculty and staff can attend the International Piano Series, the Charleston Music Fest and the 2nd Monday Series for free! In addition, the Magnetic South series, in collaboration with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, recently reduced its ticket price to $10. Learn more about the various concert series, the 2019–20 artists and season subscription opportunities.

The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art also provides a multidisciplinary laboratory for the production, presentation, interpretation and dissemination of ideas by innovative visual artists from around the world. As a non-collecting museum, the Halsey Institute creates meaningful interactions between adventurous artists and diverse communities within a context that emphasizes the historical, social and cultural importance of the art of our time – and admission to exhibitions and most events is free! With a focus on family, the Department of Theatre and Dance‘s 2019–20 season will be fun, challenging, heart-breaking and weird. From musical theater to comedy, drama to dance, the department’s quality productions feature the works of talented students, faculty and staff, as well as guest artists. Individual tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for under 18 or 60+ guests, and $12 for CofC students and employees. College of Charleston Bookstore & Apparel Discounts

The College of Charleston Bookstore offers College of Charleston faculty and staff a year-round 10% discount on apparel, and on Cougar Spirit Days, employees receive 20% off. See Bookstore for details and exclusions (e.g. textbooks).

Visit College of Charleston Athletics for game schedules. Check your email and Yammer for announcements about free ticket opportunities. Due to the pandemic, most athletics have cancelled their competitive play this year. However, you can still support your teams. Check out for details. 

Fans will be able to purchase cutouts that will be placed inside of TD Arena for all College of Charleston men's and women's basketball home games during the 2020-21 season.

Cougars Fight On! merchandise including T-shirts (women's, long sleeve and youth size options), mugs, hoodies and tote bags are now available for purchase and proceeds will directly benefit CofC Athletics.

Employees are invited to attend student poster sessions, faculty sabbatical presentations, on-campus lectures and most events.

Everybody loves a good deal. And if you’ve checked out any of the free news and media resources in the College of Charleston Libraries A–Z Databases List, you know that the College of Charleston community has access to thousands of great deals.

Free access to everything from The New York Times and the Post and Courier to Inside Higher Ed and the Chronicle of Higher Education isn’t the only thing that the database offers, though: It also gives you access to some pretty great deals at places like Target, Kohl’s and Home Depot!

CofC students, faculty and staff have free access the Wall Street Journal Online, which offers subscribers hundreds of coupons, promo codes and discounts to national chains (

To take advantage of these deals, you must first access your complimentary membership to the Wall Street Journal Online by following this link to the library record and clicking “Resource Link” under “View Online.” Next, create an account with your MyCharleston credentials on the registration page. Once your account is verified, visit and scroll to the bottom of the page to view the sponsored offers.

Take a Taxi and Send Us the Bill

The College cares about the safety of our employees. The CofC Employee Assistant Program through Deer Oaks reimburses eligible employees and their dependents for cab fare in the event that they are incapacitated due to impairment by a substance or extreme emotional condition. The process is simple and confidential. Simply call our Helpline for instructions on how to submit your receipt. It may take up to 45 days for reimbursement. Receipts are required to be submitted within 60 days of the service date. Call(866) 327-2400. 

This service covers cab fares up to $45.00 and does not include tip.
